Barbara Ann Drummond

Barbara Ann Drummond known to family and friends as Barbara-Ann, but to her grandchildren as Barb-dog, B-Jizzle, Barb, or Grammy, was born December 20, 1937 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and transitioned from labor, to the Kingdom of God on May 15, 2016 at West Penn Hospital. Barbara was the middle child of the late Benjamin and Lucille Harris. Her siblings are Benjamin Harris (Juanita), Marlene Mungo (Robert Logan), Donald Harris (Mary), Eleanor Carter (Chester), and Raymond Harris (Barbara). Barbara grew up and was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School system and graduated from Fifth Avenue High School on the twenty second day of June nineteen hundred fifty six. Barbara also attended Community College of Allegheny County and was credits away from degree completion. Barbara began her career in Shadyside nursing school and worked there as an assistant. In addition, she worked at various military bases including Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii as a Post Exchange sales clerk. She also worked for the Catholic Charities Diocese of Pittsburgh as a caregiver and raised multiple children as her own, including the neighborhood children of Stanton Heights. Barbara always had a strong conviction for education and nurturing young minds for those who had an ear to hear. She instilled hope and made all children feel they could accomplish anything that they put their mind to, and the sky was their limit. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and supporting them through various extracurricular activities such as: Upward Bound, Pittsburgh Zoo, Carnegie Library, Heinz Hall, Benedum Theater, Miss Pre-teen Beauty Pageant, movies, basketball, baseball, softball, ballet, ice skating, gymnastics, Mount Ararat Baptist Church summer youth programs (East End Cooperative Ministry), and many more. Barbara became well sought after for her advice by her children, grandchildren, and the community, for topics that ranged from life lessons to college education, not to mention her expertise in technology. Barbara known to Kia Drummond (granddaughter) as Barb-Dog, always barked out orders to everyone with the exception of her Little Wayne, Rocco (grandsons), and Raven (granddaughter) however Dee-Dee (granddaughter) fought the good fight with B-Jizzle. Barbara loved Alexis Brown (granddaughter) and adored her oldest grandchildren Shaundre, Terri, Derek Drummond although they moved from Pittsburgh at an early age. For over 35 years, Barbara held a special place in her heart for her daily newspaper and coffee buddy, Nino Brown (Son-in-law), who was with her until the very end. Barbara accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, and was baptized at Mount Ararat Baptist Church. Barbara served as President of the women's usher board at Mount Ararat and was an active member of the weekly Wednesday night bible studies under Reverend Donald O. Clay Jr. Barbara traveled the world with her childhood sweetheart, Peter Drummond and her loving family. Barbara was a Proverbs 31 woman who lived a very quiet and private life with honesty and integrity. "Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all" (Proverbs 31: 28-29 KJV). Barbara leaves to treasure her memory, husband Peter Charles Drummond, brother Raymond Harris, sister Eleanor Carter, four wonderful sister-in-laws Christine Drummond, Virgie Starr, Mary and Barbara Harris, a special niece Reverend Phyllis James, devoted sons Dwayne Drummond and Nino Brown, and the better half of her heart Reneé (Nana) and a host of grand and great grandchildren. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 4-8 at Valley View Presbyterian Church 601 North Aiken Ave. Pgh. PA 15206, where funeral service will take place Friday at 11AM.
