Jadwiga J. Einhorn

June 11, 1922 - August 3, 2017

Jadwiga J. Einhorn was a native of Warsaw, Poland. She died on August 3, 2017, at 95, in her home in Pittsburgh. Mrs. Einhorn received her education in Poland, earning a Masters of Pharmacology and later pursuing a PhD., which she finally had to postpone due to family obligations. Mrs. Einhorn immigrated in 1969 to the U.S. She was married to Dr. Jerzy Einhorn for 25 years before divorcing and becoming a single mother. She moved to Pittsburgh in 1972, where she lived with her three children: Janusz, Robert and Ewa. She worked at Presbyterian University Hospital for over twenty five years as a licensed pharmacist. During WWII she worked with the Red Cross and helped with multiple missions alongside Jerzy, who was assigned secret missions to help rescue Jews and Poles alike to escape the wrath of Hitler. Her immigration was directly affected by Jerzy's desire to leave Poland, which after the war turned Communist. Thus, she left Poland for the love of her family and became a devoted American citizen, never regretting her departure. Mrs. Einhorn enjoyed reading, having imported a library of Polish classics and more. She was always proud of having read all of the books she brought with her. She was a dedicated pharmacist and loved her profession. She loved being a home-owner, something that would have been impossible in Poland at the time of the Communist takeover. She was a loyal friend, an extremely hard worker, and stayed in contact with friends all over the world. She perfected her Polish recipes to perfection and made her famous cheese cake for all occasions. She was ambitious, persistent, confident, determined, very smart, and very generous. She suffered a debilitating stroke in 1977 which paralyzed her right side and ended her independence for twenty years until her death. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert in 2002, and is survived by her oldest son Janusz, daughter Ewa, and grandchildren Lucian, Julian, and Jesse.
