Sister Michelle Quinn, OSF
September 8, 1931 - January 8, 2022
Sister Michelle Quinn, OSF Age 90, on January 8, 2022. Daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Quinn; sister of Maureen (Frank) Morgan and the late Joseph Quinn, Gerard Quinn (survived by Mary Blanche), Eileen Bisbey and Dolores Krandel. Sister Michelle Quinn entered the Sisters of St. Francis in Millvale on January 6, 1949 from St. Wendelin Parish in Carrick. From 1950 to 1972, Sister taught in the elementary grades in numerous Catholic schools in the Pittsburgh and Greensburg Dioceses. Sister once described herself as "no stranger to change," and in 1973 she knew both her church and the world around her were changing. She responded courageously and moved into Parish Social Ministry. For 14 years, she staffed the Parish Social Ministry Office at St. Thomas More Parish in Bethel Park from 1973 - 1987. Skillfully, she developed a viable parish program offering a variety of services. She gave special attention to providing spiritual and educational programs for the elderly. She attended to the widowed, divorced and separated by developing support groups. Sister gave special attention to dying persons and their bereaved families. In 1987, she participated in a well-deserved sabbatical at Notre Dame University. From 1988 -2010 Sister served in health care, social ministry and congregational services as she continued to go where she was needed. Even in retirement, Sister Michelle continued to serve as she could often be seen sitting and praying with a dying Sister at Mt. Alvernia. In an article written by Sister Michelle, she summed up her journey in religious life in the following way. "Responding to the variety of needs and concerns is a demanding challenge. My hope and prayer is that God will give me the strength, health and courage to respond to the call to continue to build the Kingdom and to accept and meet the challenges asked of today's women religious." During her life, Sister Michelle touched countless lives and those who were privileged to receive her goodness have been greatly blest by an extraordinary Franciscan.
